Highlighting a new item to our collection: a 1918 piece of sheet music for the popular WWI song "Over There." The cover features imagery painted by a 24-year-old Norman Rockwell.

This object will soon be on display in our WWI exhibit.

What other songs might have popular connections with specific military events?

The Museum of Flight

Lockheed F-104C Starfighters at Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base in 1965. During the Korean War, Air Force fighter pilots were feeling outperformed by the MiG-15 with their F-86 Sabres and wanted a small, lightweight, high-performance fighter which lead to the development of the F-104. Dubbed ‘a missile with a man in it’ the Starfighter had a top speed of 1,404 miles per hour (Mach 2.2) and a climb rate of 50,000 ft per minute!💥💥

The Museum's Collections Committee had its first 2021 meeting yesterday and voted to add nearly 30 new items to the collection!

Here is one of the new acquisitions, a single page from the April 5, 1918 Boulder Daily Camera listing all of Boulder County's enlisted men in WWI. The other side features a colorful ad for "Liberty Loans." The ad asks, "What are WE doing---here in Colorado? / ARE WE READY?"

Was one of your family members involved in WWI? If so, let us know in the comments!

US National Archives on Twitter

The New York Times ran a fun article today about how archivists use social media to share their collections.https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/07/style/archives-hashtag-party.html

It's a bit of a long article, but at the bottom is a story about Eisenhower asking for (and receiving) a recipe for scones from Queen Elizabeth!

As you may know, the Broomfield Veterans Museum is housed in the old Mamie Dowd Eisenhower Library. Both Dwight and Mamie visited this building when it opened in 1963.
